rosary - 5 decade; relic

Dublin Core

Title

rosary - 5 decade; relic

Description

a) 5-decade rosary, silver crucifix and "M" center medal on metal chain with polished off-white stone or glass beads. Given to Sr. Mary Walter Godfrey, SL (formerly Sr. Immaculata Godfrey, SL), after the death of her friend Bishop Jeremias James Harty, SJ (1853-1927). Original tag says this rosary was always in Bishop Harty's priedieu, and it is thought that the "M" and crucifix are made of Filipino gold. Jeremias Harty was the Archbishop of Manila from 1903 to 1916. See personnel file of Sr. Mary Walter Godfrey for correspondence between her and Bishop Harty during that time.

b) Small metal oval reliquary with image of the Miraculous Medal on one side, containing a relic labeled "Mother Bridget" (presumably Bridget Hayden, SL). Found in same bag with 2021.000.147.
