Description

7-dolor missionary rosary given to Sr. Mary Jane McDonald, SL, when she went to China. The rosary has a reliquary crucifix with a broken pin, and a medal of Christ in the center. Sr. Mary Jane gave it to Sr. Antonella Marie Gutteres, SL, in the Camp in Shanghai. It was given because Sr. Mary Jane thought she would not survive the camp. Sr. Mary Jane McDonald (1881-1957) was among the first Lorettine missionaries to China and served there from 1923-1952, serving as Superior both in Han Yang and Shanghai. During the trying time of World War II Sister, with other Lorettines and religious of other orders, was interned in Sacred Heart Convent Camp by “Japanese Authority," from April 21, 1943, to August 15, 1945. Sr. Antonella Marie gave the rosary to Sr. Rosemary Chinnici, SL, before she died. See also #0340 for an explanation of the Seven Dolor Rosary.
