Description
Crown for statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary purchased by Mother Wilfred Lamotte, SL. The tiara is brass and set with blue and clear glass stones. Crown was purchased with funds raised from sale of Novices' hair; artifact display card gives the purchase date as 1908 and states the hair was clipped on the eve before their reception of the veil. Sr. Mary Wilfred LaMotte, SL (1852-1941), born in St. Louis, MO, was a teacher and Superior in many Loretto houses, She served as Vicaress General 1910-1922 and has written many poems. Her most favorite position was that of Mistress of Novices (1902-1910). It was during that time that she accompanied Mother Praxedes to Rome, in 1903.
