Description
Embroidered floral wreath on black fabric, intended as a seat or chair cover. Made by Ann (Annie) Mary Hill (1841-1923) in 1852 while she was a student at Calvary, Holy Mary's on the Rolling Fork, KY. The account books for Calvary indicate Ann attended the school from spring 1851 to spring 1854, with tuition paid by her father, Clement Hill. There were extra fees for needlework tuition and crewel listed in 1853.
Framed by Sr. Philippa Henderson, SL, in May 1957 (Sr. Philippa was curator of the museum at the Motherhouse 1945-1959). Notes on back of frame recounting this object history.
