Description

Steel engraving of “True Portrait of Our Lord Jesus Christ,” colorized. Belonged to Fr. David De Parcq, Ecclesiastical Superior of Loretto 1846-1864. It was sent to him by Fr. Peter, Director General of the Universal Congregation of the Holy House. The description is by a fictitious “Publius Lentulus,” written in the language of traditional Christian piety popular in the nineteenth century.

Maker's marks along bottom edge: "Paris Ve. Turgis editeur rue Serpente, 10, and New York, Broadway, 374"; "Lith. de Turgis r. Serpente 10 a Paris." The Turgis printing firm was on rue Serpente in Paris 1853-1856.
