Description
Daguerreotype portrait of Bishop Benedict Joseph Flaget. In photography, an early method of taking pictures on plates of silver or silvered copper was called a daguerreotype. Inscribed inside cover: "This miniature was sent by Mrs. Josephine E. Maryman, nee Villier, Little Rock, Ark., together with Rosary and hair of Bishop Flaget and two letters of Sr. Eulalia's to the Sisters at Cedar Grove, (St. Benedict’s), Louisville, KY, July 25, 1917." The Sulpician Order’s main work was to educate/train men for the priesthood. Father Flaget taught in seminaries from 1788 until November of 1791 when he fled the terrors of the French Revolution.
