Description
This slant top desk was made by Brother Charles Gilbert for Father Nerinckx. Inside are compartments for paper, ink and writing utensils. Brother Charles Gilbert came with Father Nerinckx from Europe to enter a brotherhood in America. Since the brotherhood never materialized, Brother Gilbert led a single life and spent his days serving God and the Sisters of Loretto till his death in 1867 at Cedar Grove, Louisville, Kentucky.
