The Nicaraguan Literacy Campaign was launched by the FSLN (Sandinistas) in 1980 to address illiteracy in Nicaragua, especially in rural areas. This badge was brought from Nicaragua by Sr. Alicia Ramirez, SL, who lived in Nicaragua 1976-1977 for the Loretto Third World Experience and returned as a nurse, 1980-1984.
