Description

Two shellacked wood pins, with safety pins glued to backs. a) "Viva Nicaragua libre" with image of the sun and two doves, one with an FSLN flag and one with the Nicaraguan flag. b) "Nicaragua libre" with image of the sun and black figures waving the FSLN flag, the Nicaraguan flag, and a gun.

FSLN, or the Sandinista National Liberation Front (Sandinistas), was the left-wing Marxist revolutionary party that took control of Nicaragua in 1979. These pins were brought from Nicaragua by Sr. Alicia Ramirez, SL, who lived in Nicaragua 1976-1977 for the Loretto Third World Experience and returned as a nurse, 1980-1984.
