Description

Piece of bright blue and gold patterned silk damask fabric, with long, bright blue fringe on all sides. From donor Theresa Kubasak, CoL: "The damask method of weaving can be found also in cotton, linen and wool. Damascus and Aleppo both were major trading points for many centuries on the Silk Road, the trade routes that connected eastern and western Asian lands then extended further west to the lands of the Mediterranean. In Damascus, we spent many hours in the shop of our friend Papa Joseph with his shelves filled with fabrics like this one. Silk has been produced in Syria for centuries."
