Description

Poster with lines from the poem "Bread and Roses," used by the 1912 Lawrence Textile Strike, with images of the female symbol, sun, wheat sheaves, and roses. Print by V. Reeves, "Network 1971-1981." Text is "as we go marching, marching we bring the better days / the rising of the women means the rising of the race. / no more the drudge and idler - ten that toil where one reposes, but a sharing of life's glories: / bread & roses / bread & roses! / our lives shall not be sweated from birth until life closes; hearts starve as well as bodies; bread & roses! bread & roses! / 1912 textile workers' strike slogan."
