Description

Print of a line drawing by B.A. Rawn of St. Mary's Church, Plum Bayou, AR, framed with dried cedar leaves from a tree in the churchyard where Mother Agnes Hart, SL, was buried. Printed text: "Mother Agnes was one of the first five Sisters of Loretto to come to Arkansas to open the first school at St. Mary’s Landing, about two miles south of Pine Bluff on the right bank of the Arkansas River. These first sisters arrived at St. Mary’s on October 11, 1838, two years after Arkansas reached statehood. Mother Agnes died on August 20, 1939, and was buried near St. Mary’s, but later the graves in the little cemetery were moved back from the river to Plum Bayou. The grave of Mother Agnes is located in the center of the cemetery behind the original church, which was also moved to Plum Bayou. / Cedar mounted by Sister Henrietta Hockle, OSB, January, 1983."
