Description
Oil painting on canvas, "The Flagellation." This painting is of Jesus after the scourging, wearing a crown of thorns. "N37 / Loretto Abbey" written on back in quill ink.
This is possibly the "picture of Flagellation" that was placed in St. Barbara's by Fr. Charles Nerinckx in 1807 and was later housed in St. Joseph Infirmary at the Loretto Motherhouse. St. Barbara's was a Catholic station on the James Dant farm in Nelson County, KY, which later became Gethsemani.
