Title

ruler

Description

Paper ruler, stapled on ends, marked "2 in." and "1 1/2 in." on one side. Reverse side has lines drawn across 1/3 of its length, with three numbered "15," "16," and "17." According to Sr. Mary Swain, SL, "We used this measure when we made habits in the black wardrobe here at the Motherhouse. Sister Zenobia [Hagan] taught us how it worked. It was used to determine the size of the pleats in front. Each habit was nine feet around the bottom so the size of the pleats in front was part of how we adapted to different sized persons."
