Sterling silver ring with cross on black oval background in center, marked "Packards / Sterling / J. Suina" on inside. Belonged to Sr. Mary Denis Bruck, SL (1918-2021).
J. Suina, a Taos Pueblo Indian, designed these rings at Packards of Santa Fe, NM, as one of the suggestions for an official symbol of the Sisters of Loretto. No such official symbol was ever decided upon, but many Sisters chose to wear these rings to show their identity as Sisters. See also #0851b and 2018.017.001.
