Description
Painting on canvas of Father Charles Nerinckx surrounded by images of churches and Sisters of Loretto in the three styles of veil. Unsigned; identified on back as by Sr. Gladys Ann Givan, SL, c. 1957. Sr. Gladys Ann did a similar painting of Nerinckx and Father Stephen Badin for her BFA degree in 1955, in which she depicted portraits of the two men surrounded by European and American places connected to their biographies, the three veils worn by the Sisters of Loretto, and some of the Loretto foundations (photo and explanation in Givan's personnel file).
Sr. Gladys Ann Givan, SL (1918-2004), attended Catholic schools in Colorado, majored in art at Loretto Heights College, earned a BFA in art at Notre Dame University, and earned a MFA in art at Colorado University (Boulder, CO).
