Round medal, likeness of Saint Joseph with the child Jesus on front; engraved on back "Sister Jean Carmel Sisters of Loretto." Sr. Jean Carmel Cavanaugh, SL (1909-1996), was an English professor who taught at Webster University and colleges and universities in Colorado, West Virginia, and Kentucky. She did extensive research on English poets and critics at the Folger Library in Washington. She began the Loretto Magazine in 1959 and served as its first editor.
